Emma

Nutritional Therapist & Yoga instructor

Emma at Bottom Line Fitness

I have been working as a personal trainer since 2009 and qualified as a nutritional therapist in 2013. I am also a yoga teacher and a competitive crossfit athlete.

My passion is in food and seeing the power it has to transform our lives. I really do live by the Hippocrates statement 'Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food'. I don't believe health is about depriving ourselves of the foods we love, it's about nourishing the body with delicious, wholesome foods. I want to take people away from the idea they have to starve themselves to be healthy. I have a personal website and blog with lots of recipes to help people on their healthy journey.

Additionally, I have spent time in India learning traditional Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Yin yoga and meditation techniques, which I passionately believe contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

I now spend a lot of time abroad working on health retreats. I work on Jason Vale's retreats in Portugal and Turkey, as well as our own retreats in the UK and abroad. These are incredible opportunities to spread the love and passion I have for health and wellbeing.

Ash

Personal trainer

Ash at Bottom Line Fitness

As a fully qualified personal trainer, I have been involved in the health and fitness industry for a number of years. As well as a personal trainer I am also an athlete competing in Olympic Lifting which has allowed me to further my knowledge within sport and fitness by learning from some of the top coaches in the country. Especially on the subject of getting people stronger without adding a lot of muscle bulk.

I work with various people from the everyday person wanting to put on muscle/lose weight to part-time athletes wanting to improve performance. As well as working with people on a individual basis, I coach Olympic weightlifting classes at Crossfit Derby.

My training philosophy is that a person should be able to enjoy a healthy lifestyle with a good fitness level so they can have fun playing with their kids, not be out of breath walking up the stairs and be able to live an independent life into old age.

I enjoy working with people who like to challenge themselves and  love the changes they see from fitness. In my opinion there is nothing better than seeing a client achieving something that they once thought was impossible.

Craig

Personal trainer

Ash at Bottom Line Fitness

I've always had some form of sporting interest since leaving school, but my first real passion was motor racing. My greatest success came in 1995 when I won the Mallory Park Formula Ford championship for pre-1987 cars. My interests then turned to the more physical sport of martial arts which resulted in me winning the Welsh Open Kickboxing championship in 2010.

After many years of training at that level, my interest in the gym grew to the point where I decided to make it a career. With years of experience of getting things wrong and learning from those experiences, I knew that I wanted to be able to offer clients more than just putting them through the usual exercises to tire them out, so I did three things. I qualified in nutrition, I started an Intrinsic Biomechanics diploma, and I invested heavily in advanced Continued Professional Development courses with some of the most respected names in fitness education.

Intrinsic Biomechanics enables me to assess why people have certain physical issues and are unable to do certain movements. It also helps me to understand why people may be experiencing pain or discomfort. It's a priceless tool for a personal trainer to have and enables me to get people moving more freely instead of trying to push them with exercises that their body is incapable of doing.

The advanced Continued Professional Development courses I've completed have taken my coaching skills to a completely different level. The qualification to become a personal trainer touches very little on exercise execution and although this has been something that I've always researched, I was blown away by the level of knowledge that was passed on to me by these amazing people.

I believe that to be considered one of the best in your field, you need to learn from the best, which is something that I am continually investing in.
